PvE is enabled in all areas with the exception of the Dark Zone. This means, if someone is shooting you in sandy, as long as you do NOT shoot back, you will remain in PvE mode. You'll know when you have PvE enabled, as it shows a little shield in the Left uppermost corner of your screen.
PvP is enabled in the Dark Zone on the lower portion of your map. This means, anyone can kill you and vice versa. You can also enable the PvP by shooting someone who has shot you in a PvE area. When PvP is enabled you will see this symbol in the Left uppermost corner of your screen
When you enter the Dark zone you will receive a count down in the Left Uppermost corner of your screen. It looks like this ↓. It gives you 30 seconds of protection when phasing between PvE & PvP. This prevents players from abusing the border of PvE & PvP.
